So, what exactly is a Konjac sponge?

We are constantly bombarded with new beauty products from the latest age defying face creams to bank breaking new age hair dryers. With this is mind my question of late has been……what on earth is a Konjac sponge?

After a little bit of delving I am here to clarify.

A konjac sponge is a Japanese beauty product made from the root of the Korean plant Konjac. Used for exfoliation and cleansing, the Konjac sponge is soft and very gentle on the skin. There are many varieties of sponge, some containing different properties for different skin types. For example, a black sponge may contain activated charcoal to help with oily and acne prone skin whilst a white coloured sponge is often completely natural and suitable for all skin types.

There are many benefits to using this natural product, it is not simply for cleansing and exfoliating. The konjac sponge helps to refine pores, it can be used around the delicate eye area, it is a kinder alternative to a muslin or flannel, it can be used with or without cleanser and of course, it is vegan friendly and sustainable.

It is also very simple to use.

Initially the sponge will feel hard and brittle, far from what you would imagine a gentle skincare product to be. Yet, after a soak in some warm water it will feel soft and jelly like, ready to use.

It can be used with cleanser but can also be very effective with water alone. Light circular motions around the face area, including the little crevettes of the eyes, nose and eyebrows result in an effective removal of daily build up. After rinsing, hang up to dry, ready for the following day. It is recommended that the sponge be used morning and night and be replaced every six to eight weeks.
